Retreat to Tatopani

A rainy ride out of Pokhara, a Kindle in my bag, and a welcome break from the everyday.

Life had started to feel monotonous: work, home, repeat, with very little time left for myself. I needed a change of scenery. I also had a new S9 camera that deserved something more interesting to photograph than my daily routine.

So I decided to head to Pokhara.

Making room for a break

The Buddha Jayanti holiday, an extra day of leave, and the weekend gave me four days off. By the time I got moving, I had already used up two of them, and the journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara would take most of another day. It wasn’t the most carefully planned escape, but I packed my Kindle and went anyway.

I took The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho for a reread. A coworker had also been recommending Norwegian Wood. That one would have to wait for another trip.

A rainy ride to Tatopani

The next day, I met an old friend, and we decided to visit Tatopani Resort near Pokhara. We set off around 5 pm and arrived at about 7. The road was quite good, but it rained the whole way.

The view made the wet journey worth it.

Coke and Old Durbar had never tasted quite so good.

After so much of the same routine, it was good to sit somewhere different, look out at the hills, and have nowhere else I needed to be for a while.

Made a new friend, too.

If you’re looking for a little time close to nature, Tatopani Resort was a lovely stop on this trip. I went looking for a break from the everyday. A rainy road, an old friend, and that view were enough.
